The clearest driver for efforts to move the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority from its prime downtown lakefront spot to someplace else is public waterfront access. Opening up that part of the Lake Erie shore for parks and open space is contemplated in nearly every city and lakefront plan — the only variation being where exactly to put a relocated port.
That’s why it’s best to take with a grain of salt the latest charges from Quay 55 developer Mark Coffin that a rival developer, John Carney, who sits on the Port Authority board, is the nefarious mastermind of a plot to move the port to East 55th Street and ruin the views enjoyed by the apartment dwellers of Coffin’s Quay 55… (go to article)
